SORA stands for the Security Officer Registration Act (enacted 2006). It requires all security officers in New Jersey to register with the NJ State Police ($75 fee) and complete mandatory training. New officers need 24 hours of initial classroom training, while existing officers need 8 hours of renewal training every two years. You'll also need fingerprinting through IdentoGo ($68). Upon completion, you receive an Electronic SORA ID (E-SORA) card.

The total cost includes three parts: NJSP registration ($75), fingerprinting via IdentoGo ($68), and the training class itself. Class prices vary by instructor, and some directory profiles do not show a current price. Confirm the full training cost and any extra fees directly with the instructor before paying.

A listing in this directory is not proof of current NJSP approval. Some profiles are unclaimed or incomplete. Confirm the instructor’s current status through the official NJSP registry and check class details before paying.

Yes. Many NJSP-approved instructors now offer live virtual SORA classes conducted via Zoom or similar platforms. These online classes meet the same state requirements as in-person training and are available for both 24-hour initial certification and 8-hour renewal courses. Virtual classes are popular across New Jersey as they eliminate travel time while maintaining full compliance with NJSP training standards. Check individual instructor profiles on our marketplace for virtual class availability.

Once you register with the NJ State Police and receive your temporary Application ID, you have exactly 30 days to complete all three steps: NJSP registration, IdentoGo fingerprinting ($68), and your training course. If you don't finish within this window, your temporary ID expires and you'll need to re-register and pay the $75 fee again. We recommend scheduling your fingerprinting appointment immediately after registration and booking your training class as soon as possible to avoid deadline issues.
